Steelers Injury Updates: Chuks Okorafor Misses Practice; Diontae Johnson Limited
PITTSBURGH — Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was limited in practice for the second consecutive day and right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor missed practice with a new ailment as the Pittsburgh Steelers continued their preparations on Thursday for the season opener this Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Johnson injured his shoulder in the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions and also suffered a cramp during Thursday’s practice. He was listed as a limited participant. Before practice, both offensive coordinator Matt Canada and fellow wide receiver Chase Claypool said they expected Johnson to play this Sunday.
Okorafor missed practice with a back injury, according to the team. It’s unclear when the injury occurred or how it might impact his status for Sunday. The Steelers listed newly acquired Jesse Davis as the backup at right tackle, but Trent Scott spent most of training camp playing at that spot, and is likely the first man that would be called into action if Okorafor is unable to play.
Okorafor’s status will likely be determined by whether he is able to practice on Friday, as the Steelers rarely dress players that do not participate in the final practice session of the week. The Steelers will release their final injury report for the week on Friday afternoon.
Inside linebacker Marcus Allen was listed as limited in practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury that has been bothering him since training camp, but was a full participant on Thursday.
Defensive tackle Cam Heyward was given the day off by head coach Mike Tomlin.
The only Cincinnati Bengals injury listed on Thursday was for reserve wide receiver Trent Taylor, who was limited with a hamstring injury.
