Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin are in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Wednesday for the LSU pro day.

Unlike most of Colbert and Tomlin’s scouting card this spring, the Tigers do not have a top quarterback prospect. Instead, cornerback Derek Stingley is the top LSU draft option, though the Tigers do have a number of players that the Steelers could be interested in.

Linebacker Damone Clark, defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr., guards Chasen Hines and Ed Ingram, running back Tyrion Davis-Price and tackle Austin Deculus were the other Tigers that were invited to the NFL Combine.

But Stingley is the big draw, and the likely reason that Colbert and Tomlin are in attendance. The Steelers also sent defensive backs coach Grady Brown to scout, https://twitter.com/jimnagy_sb/status/1511689425528500225?s=21&t=tFAo4yGKscKUG4S_xqelpg”>according

to Senior Bowl exec Jim Nagy.

The Steelers’ interest in Stingley appears significant, as they were the only team to have their head coach and general manager represented. Washington Commanders GM Martin Mayhew and Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley were also spotted in attendance.

Though the Steelers been quite open about their desire to scout the quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft class, they’ve also quietly seen a large number of defensive back prospects.

Stingley makes all three of the top cornerbacks that Colbert and Tomlin have seen live, along with Cincinnati’s Sauce Garnder and Clemson’s Terrell Booth. They also saw top safeties Lewis Cine (Georgia), Dax Hill (Michigan) and Colbert was at Notre Dame for Kyle Hamilton, and Hamilton is coming to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit.

They also caught the top two defensive tackle prospects while at Georgia, so while it is abundantly clear that the Steelers would like to take a quarterback, if the draft doesn’t break the way the team wants it to, or if someone else falls, Colbert and Tomlin will be prepared with options at other positions.
