Steelers Key Additions Trusting the Process with No Starting QB Signed

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a cloudy quarterback situation. That didn’t stop DK Metcalf and Darius Slay — the team’s two biggest pickups this week — from trusting general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin.
Metcalf spoke to those two and Steelers president Art Rooney II after requesting a trade from Seattle. He hung the phone up feeling secure with the signal-caller plan set in place.
“They made me feel like they had the right decision with who’s gonna be throwing me the football,” Metcalf said Thursday during his introductory press conference with the team. “I’m not making the decision in the quarterback room, so I’m just gonna try to do the best of my abilities to help whoever they have out there throwing the football. They make the correct decisions to bring the quarterback in here, so I’m just gonna roll with that.”
What are the Steelers’ current options at quarterback?
The Steelers brought back Mason Rudolph on Thursday, their first move at the position since free agency opened. Pittsburgh is reportedly waiting on Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, and the door remains ajar for Russell Wilson to possibly return, as well.
“I’ve been watching this organization for a long time,” said Slay, a six-time Pro Bowl cornerback. “I can say I trust this organization more than anything, from the outside looking in. Definitely with Coach (Tomlin), as you can see, you know, I don’t wanna bring his resume up, but he has not had a losing season for a reason. I do trust him, and whatever he got going, I’m with it.”

Slay spent the first seven years of his career with Detroit, with whom he was a division rival of Rodgers’.
“Shoot, he was in Green Bay, you know, slicing and dicing,” Slay said. “So, hopefully once upon a time, he’s slicing and dicing and we on the same team. But, however it goes, I’m here to play ball.”
Metcalf was asked if he’ll have any part in trying to sway Rodgers or Wilson to join forces with him. The receiver had an assured answer.
“This is a historic organization, they’ve done the recruiting before I even got here,” Metcalf said. “Whoever wants to come here and try to win as many games as we can, you know, they can join us. But, you know, if not, good luck on the other side.”
