Steelers LB Ola Adeniyi Apparently Has Surgery

Steelers OLB Ola Adeniyi

Steelers linebacker Ola Adeniyi underwent surgery on Friday morning, according to now-deleted posts on his social media accounts.

Adeniyi posted a Tweet thanking the Steelers organization saying, “I know I’ll be back and healthy in no time” and an Instagram story showing himself in a hospital bed with the caption “surgery went smooth.” Both posts were later deleted for unknown reasons.

The Steelers have not made an announcement regarding Adeniyi’s status. The team does not have a scheduled media briefing before Saturday’s Week 2 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field.

Adeniyi, a second-year linebacker out of Toledo, was having a phenomenal training camp, impressing with his quickness and agility, particularly in pass-rushing drills. He had five tackles in the team’s first preseason game against Tampa Bay.

He had spelled starting right outside linebacker Bud Dupree several times during camp, getting work with the first team defense, but missed the team’s final practice of training camp at St. Vincent College on Thursday.

The native of Nigeria signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2018. After a promising preseason, he spent most of his rookie season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury suffered in the fourth preseason game. He was activated on December 1 and played in just one game, making one tackle.
