Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Kevin Dotson said on social media late Sunday that he received death threats after being penalized three times during the Steelers’ 20-18 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Getting death threats for some penalties is crazy,” https://twitter.com/kdd7696/status/1581795547614416896″>Dotson

wrote on social media. “For a game that has no bearing on your life. [You’re] a fan, not [an] owner and you don’t even put any work to feel any type of way about it.”

Dotson was flagged for two holding calls and one false start in the game. One of the holding penalties came on the play that starting quarterback Kenny Pickett was hit and concussed. Dotson was also late onto the field during a field goal try, causing the team to use a timeout.

The Steelers’ fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Dotson has been the team’s starting left guard since the start of the 2021 season. The win over the Buccaneers was his 28th game in Black and Gold. Dotson won a battle with Kendrick Green to retain his starting spot in training camp this year.

Dotson’s claim of a death threat was not able to be independently verified, but a survey of his social media mentions from during the game showed plenty of vitriol sent his way.
