In Week 1, the Steelers won outright as 7.5-point underdogs to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Patriots could not cover as three-point underdogs at the Miami Dolphins, losing 20-7. Both teams’ Week 1 games went under the total.

In 2021, the Steelers were 7-5 against the spread as underdogs and 3-0 as home underdogs. The Patriots were 7-5 as favorites against the spread and 3-2 as road favorites.

Both teams would probably prefer to be the underdog in the game. The Steelers are 44-25-3 as underdogs in the last 15 seasons, and according to Darren Rovell of Action Network, only the Patriots have a better record in that time span when going against the odds.

The Patriots have won six of the last seven games between the teams, though the Steelers won the last meeting in Pittsburgh, a 17-10 win in 2018. Under Bill Belichick, New England is 12-4 against the Steelers. In the games between Belichick and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, the Patriots are 8-3.

This will be the first game between the teams that will not feature former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady since 2008, when the Steelers beat a Matt Cassel-led Pats team 33-10 with Brady recovering from a knee injury.

The Steelers and Patriots are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be broadcast by CBS.
