Steelers Bengals

Ahead of this Sunday afternoon’s home game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Pittsburgh Steelers have opened as five-point underdogs on betting lines.

As T.J. Watt returned to the lineup, the Steelers notched their first win since mid-October, against New Orleans, on Sunday. Pittsburgh was favored in that matchup, with the Saints dealing with a number of injuries at key spots.

The Steelers are 4-4-1 against the spread this season, according to BetUS, and are 2-5 as underdogs. They’ll have to deal with a Cincy attack that ranks sixth in points per game (25.3), third in first-quarter scoring (6.1), and third in red zone efficiency (72.4%).

The Steelers are 3-1 against the spread over their last four outings, including covers against Tampa Bay (+10) and Miami (+7).

The Bengals are also 3-1 against the spread their last four times out. They’ve been favored in each of those contests.

Also, the under has hit each of the last four times Pittsburgh has been a home underdog. On BetUS, the total is set at 41 points, with the over and under both listed at -110.

Cincy was favored to win by 7.5 points in these two teams’ regular season opener, which the Steelers won in overtime, thanks in large part to a memorable defensive performance.

The Bengals have won three of the past four meetings in this AFC North divisional rivalry. They were underdogs twice in that span, including a December 2020 matchup in which Pittsburgh was favored by 14.5 points, but lost by 10.

Star receiver Ja’Marr Chase will likely miss this contest with a hip ailment that figures to keep him out until the middle of next month. Other injuries to watch include tailback Chris Evans (knee), cornerback Tre Flowers (hamstring), safety Dax Hill (shoulder), cornerback Mike Hilton (finger), and defensive end Sam Hubbard (finger).

The Steelers are likely to be without safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who recently underwent an appendectomy.
