PITTSBURGH — There was certainly a chance that a day like Sunday was never going to come for Russell Wilson with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson missed the first six games of the 2024 season with a calf injury, and Justin Fields led the team to a 4-2 star in his place.
Another coach might not have gone back to the veteran, but Mike Tomlin did. Another young quarterback might not have taken the apparent demotion as professionally and as graciously as Fields has, but he did.
And when Wilson went out and contributed three touchdowns to a 37-15 win over the New York Jets, they celebrated together.
