Steelers Lose Out on Another Potential Quarterback
The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost out on landing another potential quarterback with the New England Patriots trading Joe Milton III.

The list of quarterbacks the Pittsburgh Steelers could land for the 2025 season just got a bit shorter. The New England Patriots are trading quarterback Joe Milton III to the Dallas Cowboys, according to multiple reports.
Milton has been subject to trade talks recently with several teams reportedly inquiring about the 25-year-old and the Steelers were among those interested, per Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The Steelers are still waiting on free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision on where he wants to play for the 2025 season, and while many believe it’s a “safe bet” he’ll land in Pittsburgh, Milton would have provided further quarterback insurance with just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson under contract.
It didn’t take a lot to acquire Milton, either. Despite early reports saying the Patriots were expected to be asking for a third-round pick in exchange for Milton, he was traded for much less.
According Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Cowboys are sending a fifth-round pick in exchange for Milton and a seventh rounder. That’s a very reasonable price for an intriguing player at the most important position.
Milton first caught the attention of several teams in the Patriots’ Week 18 upset over the Buffalo Bills. He completed 22 of 29 passes (75.9%) for 241 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions and a 111.4 passer rating.
The former sixth-round pick comes as at a risk with such a small sample size, but he certainly has the tools to be successful at the next level. The 6-foot-5, 246-pound quarterback has a rocket arm and dual-threat ability.
The Steelers must now stand their ground even more with the hopes of officially landing Rodgers sooner rather than later.
