Steelers Lose Two to Injuries vs. Jets

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Montravius Adams (knee) and starting cornerback Donte Jackson (shoulder) suffered injuries and did not return in Sunday night’s 37-15 win over the New York Jets. Head coach Mike Tomlin provided a brief update after the game.
“We had a couple of injuries. Mon Adams had a knee injury, wasn’t able to return. Donte Jackson had a shoulder injury, wasn’t able to return,” Tomlin said. “We had some other bumps and bruises associated with play, but I’m just really appreciative of the efforts of the men.”
Adams suffered a knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday night’s game. The Steelers dressed six defensive lineman, so Dean Lowry and Isaiahh Loudermilk provided depth behind Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton and Larry Ogunjobi. The Steelers do not really have another player with extensive nose tackle experience beyond Benton.
Adams was listed on the team’s injury report with a knee injury. Adams was limited in practice on Friday and was questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Jets. He was upgraded to having no injury designation on Saturday.
The Steelers signed Adams to their active roster off of the New Orleans Saints practice squad on Nov. 29, 2021. In the 2021 season, Adams played in five games for the Saints before being placed on the practice squad and eventually signing with the Steelers.

Jackson walked off the field after Jets running back Breece Hall’s second-quarter, 57-yard reception, entered the blue medical tent, and was ruled out by the Steelers with a shoulder injury. James Pierre entered the contest to replace Jackson.
Hall broke a number of tackles after pulling in a check-down pass from Aaron Rodgers and was finally shoved out by Minkah Fitzpatrick at the Pittsburgh 3-yard line. The Jets extended their lead three plays later when Rodgers hit Tyler Conklin for a 1-yard air strike.
Jackson was acquired in an off-season trade that sent Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers. He dealt with injuries while with Carolina and has attempted to play through an A-C sprain suffered during the Steelers’ Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Jackson leads the Steelers with three interceptions. That total is also tied as the third-most in the NFL. Green Bay’s Xavier McKinney has picked off five passes, while Detroit Kerby Joseph has four.
Pierre is in his second stint as a Steelers. He was an undrafted free agent in 2020, played four seasons in Pittsburgh, then signed as a free agent with the Washington Commanders. Pierre didn’t make the final cut with Washington before returning to the Steel City.
