Steelers Lose Two to Injury vs. Commanders
LANDOVER, Md. — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson (hamstring) and Alex Highsmith (left ankle) both suffered in-game injuries and did not return in Sunday’s 28-27 win over the Washington Commanders.
“We had a lot of bump and bruises, some people were able to go back. Here are two who did not, Donte Jackson with a hamstring did not. Alex Highsmith with an ankle did not. I think everybody else in some former fashion got back in the game,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said after the game.
Steelers running back Najee Harris revealed after the game that his ankle got rolled up on in the fourth quarter, which sidelined him briefly. He said he’ll get tested on Monday, but it doesn’t appear to be serious.
Highsmith sustained a left ankle injury late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Highsmith rolled his ankle as he was chasing Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. He was replaced by newly acquired outside linebacker Preston Smith.
Highsmith, who had a noticeable limp, was assisted off the field by the team’s medical staff.
Jackson sustained an hamstring injury early in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders and is questionable to return. Jackson was replaced by veteran backup James Pierre.
Jackson hasn’t missed any games this year but he’s been banged-up. He’s also been dealing with a nagging AC sprain since suffering the injury back in the team’s Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He has been playing through it, but he missed extensive time during the Week 7 win over the New York Jets.
The Steelers came into Sunday’s game a pretty healthy unit after the bye week. Outside linebacker Nick Herbig was the only Steelers player ruled out due to an injury.
The Steelers got back five players for Sunday’s game in center Zach Frazier, linebacker Tyler Matakevich, running back Cordarrelle Patterson, quarterback Justin Fields and wide receiver Ben Skowronek.
Why all of the Steelers’ hamstring injuries? It’s an awful lot or has become a generic explanation for any leg/non-knee injury??
B/C the new strength and conditioning coach is a Tomlin buddy hire just like Canada was.
He’s the one who caused Russell Wilson to miss the start of the season because he had him pushing a blocking sled, or some such nonsense. Yeah, just what a 35 year old qb needs to be doing.
