Steelers Sign RB Master Teague, 9 from Practice Squad to 2023 Contracts

Master Teague

The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed running back Master Teague and nine players from their practice squad to reserve/future contracts for the 2023 season, the team announced on Tuesday.

The Steelers have re-signed wide receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley, cornerback Duke Dawson, guard Bill Dunkle, outside linebacker Emeke Egbule, running back Jason Huntley, center Ryan McCollum, safety Scott Nelson, running back Master Teague, wide receiver Cody White and tight end Rodney Williams. Only one of the 10 played in any games for the Steelers this season.

White played in 19 snaps in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts, catching one pass for two yards. The son of Steelers director of pro scouting Sheldon White, he has been with the Steelers since 2020, spending most of the last three seasons shuttling between the team’s active roster and practice squad. In addition to his one game this year, White played in 15 games in 2021. He has six career catches for 35 yards.

Teague was with the Steelers in training camp before a serious ankle injury derailed his 2022 season. Before his injury, Teague had six carries for 31 yards in one game this preseason. He briefly re-joined the team’s practice squad in November.

Bradley will be in his fourth pro season out of Louisiana. He joined the Steelers practice squad on Nov. 23 after spending time with the Cleveland Browns. He had been drafted to play in the XFL this spring, but will be spending it in Pittsburgh instead.

Dunkle and McCollum joined the team late in training camp and remained on the practice squad throughout the season. Dunkle was an undrafted rookie out of San Diego State that was first with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Steelers claimed McCollum on waivers from the Detroit Lions. He also spent time with the Houston Texans since going undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2021.

Egbule and Nelson were late additions to the practice squad. Egbule was signed on Dec. 7. Nelson had two stints with the team, one in early October, and then he returned on Dec. 27

Williams (Sept. 13), Dawson (Oct. 12) and Huntley (Oct. 18) were all early season additions that spent the rest of the year on the practice squad.

The Steelers finished the season with 53 players on their active roster and nine on the injured reserve list. With their 10 signings on Tuesday, they now have filled 72 of their 90 spots on their offseason roster.
