Steelers Met wit UNC QB Sam Howell again at the NFL Combine
INDIANAPOLIS — The Steelers continue to search high and low for their next quarterback. It is a multiple-front attack, and the NFL Combine is one of those fronts that the Steelers are exploring thus far. North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell talked to the media Wednesday morning and confirmed that he had met with the Steelers in Indianapolis.
Howell’s meeting with the Steelers went well. Not only does he greatly respect the organization, but he carries great respect for Mike Tomlin as a leader of men. If Howell does end up in Pittsburgh, it seems the natural relationship and chemistry of Howell and Tomlin could be a reason why.
“I greatly respect Coach Tomlin and think the world of that organization,” Howell said of the Steelers.
The Steelers met with Howell at the Senior Bowl as well. So, they will have plenty of exposure to North Carolina quarterback. General manager Kevin Colbert visited Howell during the season in Chapel Hill. When North Carolina came up to Pittsburgh to play Pitt, Colbert and his staff were in the press box watching the Tar Heel signal-caller.
As such, the Steelers have plenty of exposure and knowledge of Howell. If he is there at 20, they will have done as much homework as any team has done on Howell. With his athletic build and sharpness above the neck, it would make sense for Howell to at least be considered for the Steelers in the first round.
