PITTSBURGH and MENTOR, Ohio — It’s been an offseason of new things for Mitch Trubisky. The quarterback has a second change to make an impact in the NFL as a starting quarterback with the Steelers, moved closer to his hometown and added to his family, becoming a dad for the first time by welcoming his son Hudson on May 12.
With Father’s Day falling in June, all of our Friday Take Fives will have a father theme. Here’s our Friday Take Five with Mitch Trubisky, about becoming a new father for the first time and more:
Steelers Now: So what’s life been like for the last month or so?
Mitch Trubisky: “What’s life been like for the last month or so forth. It’s been special. It’s been everything and more. I love coming home to my son and my wife every day and just help taking care of him. It’s been four weeks now. It’s been incredible. … It’s the best thing in the world, it really is.”
SN: What’s been the most different for you?
MT: “Just waking up in the middle of night a couple of times, changing diapers, changing my shirt a lot from getting spit up on, all that fun stuff. But there’s nothing like holding your son and looking at him all day. He’s beautiful and what my wife’s been incredible. Just watching her be a mother, it’s it’s been special.”
SN: Have you found yourself telling any dad jokes yet?
MT: “I think I’ve been on the dad jokes. All my friends have been killing me. They’re like, it was perfect. You got you just keep using your corny dad jokes and they’re finally working.”
SN: So it seems like this is a pretty big year for you. How does that feel?
MT: “It’s a huge year. Becoming a father was an absolute blessing. I mean it’s huge, and then it also puts football in perspective. I know I have a huge opportunity this year to take full advantage of it. My wife has been incredible raising our son together and just watching her being an incredible mother. I also know what a huge opportunity I have to get back onto the field and and lead lead a team and hopefully be a starter again so I’m looking forward to the opportunity and being a part of a great franchise that is the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
