Steelers Morning Rush: Can Broderick Jones Take the Next Step?
Steelers Morning Rush: Can Broderick Jones take the next step by becoming a more consistent player, helping Najee Harris and the running game, and stopping Maxx Crosby this week.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, Alan breaks down one key matchup from the team’s Week 6 road trip against the Las Vegas Raiders: Broderick Jones vs. Maxx Crosby.
Steelers right tackle Broderick Jones has been much better since being re-inserted into the starting lineup following the season-ending injury to rookie tackle Troy Fautanu. But Jones will face his biggest test this week against Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby.
Crosby can wreck a game all by himself and did just that earlier this year against the Baltimore Ravens, as the Raiders went on the road and stole a win. Last year, Chuks Okorafor largely shut Crosby down in the Steelers-Raiders matchup.
Jones, meanwhile, has faced just one top-flight edge rusher this season. He knocked Joey Bosa right out of the game in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers. He’ll need another strong performance to deal with Crosby.
