Steelers Named Trade Spot for Two Offensive Linemen

The Steelers are still rounding out their roster as they head into their second week of OTAs next week, and there are some suggestions out there of who they could add to the team.

Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report named a few trades that he believes the Steelers should do earlier this week, including trading for Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons, but he named two other potential candidates that the team could after as well. That was two offensive linemen that he deems to be potentially available.

Green Bay’s Yosh Nijman and Dallas’s Terrence Steele were named players that the Steelers could target. For Nijman, he is in the last year of his contract and is primarily a right tackle. If the Steelers were to make that move, it would obviously signal a move away from Chuks Okorafor.

“The 27-year-old can play both sides of the offensive line, so he would be a perfect fit on the right side opposite Broderick Jones,” Tansey wrote. “That would give the Steelers two young offensive line anchors to protect Pickett, and if the move was a success, the franchise would have to seriously consider signing Nijman to a long-term deal.”

That move could be intriguing. But then there is Steele. Steele has started all over the offensive line for Dallas and is still tabbed to be their starting right tackle this year when he comes back from a significant knee injury. So, it would be a bit of an odd move, but Tansey lays out a scenario where it could make sense for both sides. Plus, the injury would make it hard to pull the trade-off anyways.

“Steele has played most of his career at right tackle, which is the hole the Steelers would be looking to fill,” Tansey wrote. “Pittsburgh could simply wait until 2024 free agency to land one of these players, but if it feels it can get a head start on the market, a trade would be the way to go.”

Regardless of how one views Pittsburgh’s offensive line right now, if there is an upgrade available, Pittsburgh should still inquire about it. Tansey did call these both ‘shocking trades’ and they would be just that. Nijman, in particular, would not be a player to completely write off, but don’t expect these deals to occur.
