Steelers Near Full Health for Browns Game; 3 Improve Status on Thursday

Pittsburgh Steelers Montravius Adams, Calvin Austin III and Alex Highsmith were limited in practice on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are nearly fully healthy as they approach their Week 14 rematch with the Cleveland Browns.

Three Steelers players saw their practice statuses upgrade on Thursday, and the only player on the 53-man roster who was not a full participant in the indoor session at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex was defensive tackle Cam Heyward, who was given the day off.

Wide receiver Calvin Austin III was upgraded from limited in practice on Wednesday to full practice on Thursday, after suffering a concussion last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Austin remains in the NFL concussion protocol, but practicing on consecutive days and seeing his status increase is a positive sign for him to play this Sunday when the Steelers host the Browns at 1 p.m.

Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith already said that he intended to play on Sunday, but he had yet to get in a full practice since his Week 10 low ankle sprain. He did just that on Thursday, and he should be expected to start opposite T.J. Watt.

Defensive tackle Montravius Adams also continues to progress. He had been limited on Wednesday, but was a full participant on Thursday. The Steelers have until Dec. 18 to active Adams from the injured reserve list, so even if he is a full participant on Friday, they will have to make a roster move before he should be expected to play.

The Steelers did just that with cornerback Cory Trice Jr., elevating him from the injured reserve list before practice on Thursday after waiving running back Jonathan Ward to make space on Wednesday. Trice was a full participant in practice for the second consecutive day.
