Steelers NFL Draft Film Room: Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy
With Kenny Pickett’s sophomore season ending with him being benched down the stretch, the Pittsburgh Steelers have some questions to answer at the games most important position. While Mike Tomlin expressed confidence in his former first round pick, the organization will undoubtedly perform their due diligence on this years crop of quarterbacks. After going 27-1 as a starter at Michigan, J.J. McCarthy is someone who could potentially be available in the latter part of the first round.
SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down McCarthy’s performance against Michigan State this past season, one in which his best traits are on full display. His willingness to throw over the middle of the field and creation ability outside of structure are some of the more intriguing parts of his game. After just turned 21-years old a few days ago, there are still a handful of things that need significant development in order for him to hit his ceiling as a player. He’s sure to be one of the more polarizing prospects in this entire cycle.
