Steelers NFL Week 3: The Steelers Offense is a Clunker

The Pittsburgh Steelers come home in NFL Week 3 to play the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday, 1:01 p.m. at Acrisure Stadium. FanDuel Sportsbook’s Week 3 NFL odds have the Steelers as a -1.5 favorites.

The Steelers handled the Broncos last week, limiting Denver to six points.

Now the 2-0 Pittsburgh Steelers play a 2-0 Chargers team led by Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert. Here’s how I’m betting on the Steelers’ Week 3 tilt.

Los Angeles Chargers +106 Moneyline (FanDuel)

This week, the Steelers face a competent quarterback in Justin Herbert. But the Chargers offense hasn’t been a circus act through two weeks. Herbert’s thrown for a combined 274 yards and three TDs.

Harbaugh’s Chargers love to run the ball. J.K. Dobbins has rushed for 267 yards through two games, and LA is averaging 197.5 rushing yards.

The Steelers’ defense will have their hands full with the Chargers offense, especially if Dobbins can pick up chunks of yards on first and second down. Third and shorter scenarios limit the chaos TJ Watt and the Steelers defense can cause.

Harbaugh knows the recipe for beating the Steelers—get a lead and sit on it. I’m taking the Chargers to win outright this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Total Points Under 18.5 (BetMGM)

Upon the signing of QB Russell Wilson, Mike Tomlin quipped that a football team is “in the business of scoring touchdowns.”

Business is slow for the Steelers.

The Steelers’ offense scored one touchdown through eight quarters of football. Against Atlanta in Week 1, Chris Boswell’s foot scored all 18 points. And last week versus Denver, the Steelers offense barely had a pulse.

Los Angeles has allowed 13 points through two weeks, limiting the Las Vegas Raiders to 10 and the Carolina Panthers to three. Going over 18.5 means the Steelers likely have to score multiple TDs. Can you envision that?

The Steelers keep winning games like a service academy. OC Arthur Smith and Mike Tomlin have turned Justin Fields into a game manager, not asking much of him other than not to turn the ball over.

Rinse and repeat. Take the Steelers team total under.
