Steelers Nose Tackle Leaves Game with Injury

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Montravius Adams suffered a knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday night’s game against the New York Jets. He will not return.
The Steelers dressed six defensive lineman for tonight’s game, so Dean Lowry and Isaiahh Loudermilk are currently the only backup defensive lineman behind Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton and Larry Ogunjobi. The Steelers do not really have another player with extensive nose tackle experience beyond Benton.
Adams was listed on the team’s injury report with a knee injury. Adams was limited in practice on Friday and was questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Jets. He was upgraded to having no injury designation on Saturday.
The Steelers signed Adams to their active roster off of the New Orleans Saints practice squad on Nov. 29, 2021. In the 2021 season, Adams played in five games for the Saints before being placed on the practice squad and eventually signing with the Steelers.

Last season, Adams’ role diminished slightly due to the emergence of Keeanu Benton. Adams still played in a career-high 416 defensive snaps in eight starts and 13 appearances. Adams finished the 2023 season with 24 total tackles and one forced fumble.
In 2022, Adams probably played the biggest role since he entered the league with the Steelers. He played in all 17 games and notched nine starts. He played his second most defensive snaps in a season with 281 and finished the season with 26 total tackles, four quarterback pressures, and one pass defended.
In total, Adams has appeared in 85 career games and has started 25 of them with 21 of those starts coming as a Steeler. He registered 109 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
