PITTSBURGH — The Steelers designated nose tackle Carlos Davis to return to practice while on the injured reserve on Thursday, beginning the process of working him back to the active roster.

Davis has been out since injuring his knee during the team’s Week 1 win at Buffalo. He was placed on the injured reserve list on Oct. 27, and Thursday was the first day that he could be activated to practice.

He will now have up to 21 days of practice time before the team must decide to either active him or keep him on the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season.

With both Davis and starter Tyson Alualu on the injured reserve, the Steelers have been using Isaiah Buggs at nose tackle.
