The Pittsburgh Steelers have opened as underdogs to the Atlanta Falcons in betting odds for their Week 1 road opener in 2024.
The Steelers are three-point underdogs to the Falcons, according to odds posted on Wednesday by FanDuel Sportsbook, just after the official release of the Steelers 2024 schedule.
Additionally, the Steelers are +128 to win on the money line, while the Falcons are -152. The over/under total for the game has been set at 42.5.
Pittsburgh was 10-8 against the spread in 2023, tied for the ninth-best ATS record in the NFL. The Falcons 5-12 against the spread last season, 31st in the league. The Steelers had 11 of 18 games go under the total, while the Falcons had 10 of 17 games go under.
Of course, both teams went through big changes in the offseason. The Falcons fired Arthur Smith and replaced him with former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. He brought Zac Robinson over from the Rams with him to be offensive coordinator, and they then went out and signed quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency and drafted Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Steelers hired Smith as offensive coordinator after firing Matt Canada mid-season in 2023, and signed Russell Wilson as a free agent and traded for Justin Fields to replace Kenny Pickett, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Steelers have won four straight games against the Falcons with Mike Tomlin as head coach, with wins in Pittsburgh in 2010 and 2018 and in Atlanta in 2010 and 2022. That most recent game was a 19-16 Steelers victory at Mercedes Benz-Stadium, the first time the Steelers had played in that venue.
Overall, the Steelers are 15-2-1 against the Falcons. Their two losses in Atlanta came in 2006 and 1970. The teams tied in Pittsburgh in 2002. From 2002 to 2010, three straight games between the team went to overtime. Only one game since 1993 has been decided by more than one score.
