The Pittsburgh Steelers have made official the signing of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the team announced on Thursday. The Steelers first agreed to the signing on March 14.
The team did not announced the terms of the two-year contract, but it is reportedly for $14 million over two seasons, with a $5 million guaranteed signing bonus and a potential for $13.75 million in incentives. Only the $5 million in signing bonus is guaranteed.
Trubisky’s 2022 salary cap hit cannot be calculated until the full breakdown of his salary, along with whether his incentives will be categorized as likely or not likely to be earned is released.
Trubisky is expected to meet with members of the Pittsburgh media for the first time via Zoom on Thursday.
Trubisky is the first of the Steelers’ free agent signings to be announced by the team. The Steelers have also reportedly agreed to terms with Buffalo Bills cornerback Levi Wallace, Chicago Bears guard James Daniels and Minnesota Vikings center/guard Mason Cole. The team has also reportedly extended the contract of nose tackle Montravius Adams.
The Steelers have officially announced contract extensions for right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor, slot cornerback Arthur Maulet and strong safety Miles Killebrew, as well as the release of tackle Zach Banner and inside linebacker Joe Schobert.
NFL teams could begin contacting potential free agents at noon on Monday, but deals could not be formally agreed to or processed by the NFL until 4 p.m., explaining the backlog.
Several players were reported to have agreed to deals during the contact period, only to change their mind before they became official, including running back J.D. McKissic, who returned to the Washington Commanders instead of going to the Buffalo Bills and defensive lineman Randy Gregory going to the Denver Broncos instead of staying with the Dallas Cowboys.
