The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most successful teams in NFL history when it comes to playing in prime time, but they’ve been just so-so on Thursday nights.
The Steelers are second in NFL history with 91 overall prime time wins, behind only the Dallas Cowboys (95). Pittsburgh is fourth in prime time winning percentage at .587. But on Thursday Night Football, the Steelers are just 11-11.
Most of those games have come since the NFL put Thursday Night Football on the schedule for most weeks in 2006. Things started well, with the Steelers winning their first five Thursday night games under the new arrangement. But they lost five straight from 2012-15 to bring their weeknight record way down.
Their last Thursday night game came on Nov. 14, 2019, a 21-7 loss to at Cleveland Browns. The road has been especially troubling for the Steelers on Thursdays. Their record in 3-9 in away games on Thursday night.
The Steelers’ opponents won’t feel a lot better about their chances this Thursday night, though. The Vikings are also .500 in Thursday night games at 13-13.
