After yet another disappointing loss in their first game of the postseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now back in offseason mode. With many questions circling the entire organization, the Steelers are now going to have to address the quarterback position once more.

The Steelers are one of two teams who do not have a quarterback signed for the 2025 season. All three current signal callers–Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen–are set to be free agents by the beginning of the new league year.

Both Wilson and Fields have expressed a desire to return to the black and gold. However, it remains to be seen if the front office can strike a deal with either quarterback to keep them here.

With both Wilson and Fields, it will come down to the financials and opportunity. The likely of the two would be the 13-year veteran in Wilson. He took over under center week seven and onward. Despite a 4-0 start, his digression highlighted the 2-6 collapse in the backend of the schedule.

Fields remains the most intriguing of the two. With offensive coordinator Arthur Smith heaping praise multiple times to the four-year man out of Ohio State–calling him a true pro–Tomlin’s quick decision to move away from Fields raises even more questions.

Both quarterbacks likely could get better contracts away from the team. With teams such as the New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, and even AFC North foe Cleveland Browns looking for a 2025 solution, the Steelers might be in a position where they pay more than they wanted to.

For now, the Steelers will have to roll out of the 2024 league year with their exit interviews, end of season evaluations, and answer questions beyond the roster–possibly with coaching staff changes.
