Steelers Place Nickel CB Arthur Maulet on COVID-19
The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed slot cornerback Arthur Maulet on the COVID-19 list, the team announced Thursday.
Maulet can test out of the leagues COVID-19 protocol, but with just four days before the Steelers are set to face the Cleveland Browns on Monday night, it seems unlikely that he will be able to play in the game.
In his first season with the team after coming over from the New York Jets as an unrestricted free agent this summer, Maulet has laid claim to the teams Nickel cornerback role. In 15 games, he has made 43 tackles, forced one fumble and defensed one pass.
Without Maulet available, the Steelers will likely turn to rookie Tre Norwood and Ahkello Witherspoon to serve as the fifth defensive back.
Maulet makes eight Steelers currently impacted by the virus, joining tackle Zach Banner, inside linebacker Devin Bush, nose tackle Isaiah Buggs, running back Anthony McFarland Jr. and practice squad wide receivers Anthony Miller, Steven Sims and Tyler Vaughns.
The team did get one player back from the COVID-19 list on Thursday, as inside linebacker Marcus Allen was activated.
Thursday is the first of three scheduled practice sessions for the Steelers leading up to Week 17‘s matchup with Cleveland.
