Steelers Place WR Diontae Johnson, C Kendrick Green on COVID-19 List

The Steelers have placed wide receiver Diontae Johnson and center Kendrick Green on the COVID-19 reserve list, the team announced on Thursday.

According to the NFL COVID-19 policy, the players may test out of the protocol before Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, but with just over 72 hours to kickoff, that seems unlikely.

If he’s out, Green will miss his second straight start. He was dressed but did not play in the team’s Week 17 win over the Cleveland Browns while dealing with a calf injury.

J.C. Hassenauer replaced him as the team’s starting center and the line seemed not to miss a beat, with rookie running back Najee Harris setting a career high in rushing yards.

Johnson has been the team’s top wide receiver all season. His 100 catches is nearly double that of No. 2 wide receiver Chase Claypool and he also leads the team in receiving yards and touchdowns.

James Washington should be expected to step into Johnson’s role, alongside Claypool and Ray-Ray McCloud. Cody White will provide depth and the team has several options to make an addition from the practice squad.
