Just over a week into his expected month off from football after arthroscopic knee surgery, Steelers running back Jaylen Samuels is progressing nicely.

Samuels was in the Steelers locker room on Wednesday without a brace and was walking without any hint of a limp.

“He’ll be back sooner rather than later,” running backs coach Eddie Faulkner said. “I’m not a trainer or a doctor, but I know they’re pleased with his progress.”

Samuels was injured in the Steelers’ Week 5 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and had surgery that Monday. Head coach Mike Tomlin said during his press conference in advance of the team’s Week 6 trip to Los Angeles that Samuels was expected to miss about a month.

His seemingly healthy return to the facility during the team’s bye week and positive words on his recovery from both Faulkner and Tomlin seem to suggest that time frame is still in play.

That would have Samuels miss the team’s Week 8 meeting with the Miami Dolphins, but might put him on the radar for a return for their Week 9 game against the Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field on Nov. 3.
