Steelers Practice Report: Fautanu Gets Spot, Minicamp Standouts

Steelers

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their 2024 minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Thursday, and Alan Saunders and Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now were there to break it all down.

First-round pick Troy Fautanu talked about his first four weeks of professional football, and the plan for him going forward, which will include starting training camp at right tackle. That seems to be setting up a battle between Broderick Jones and Dan Moore Jr. at left tackle. Running back Najee Harris didn’t talk — declining interview requests — and didn’t practice, either. Head coach Mike Tomlin said on Wednesday that his absence was not significant.

Harris had his fifth-year option declined by the team in May and hasn’t spoken to the Pittsburgh media since. Additionally, Nick and Alan talked about the play of fourth-string quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, who has been doing a lot more than passing, and their standouts from minicamp: cornerback Beanie Bishop and receiver Calvin Austin III. All that and more in today’s Pittsburgh Steelers Practice Report.
