Steelers Practice Report: More Offensive Buy-In, Xs and Os Changes

Steelers Practice Report 5/29

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their second week of OTAs at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side on Wednesday, and Alan Saunders and Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now were there to break it down.

Alan and Nick talked to several players about the changes to the offensive system from last year under Matt Canada to this year under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and not only the Xs and Os changes, but about how Smith’s style as a coach and communicator have created greater buy-in around the offense.

They also broke down those Xs and Os changes, including more opportunities for running backs in the receiving game, and more expected usage of tight ends in the red zone, including MyCole Pruitt, who had that job under Smith in Atlanta last season.

Alan also broke the news on Wednesday that the Steelers are not talking to right guard James Daniels about a contract extension, and what that means for the future of the team’s offensive line.
