UNITY TWP., Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers had their fifth training camp practice of 2024 on Sunday at St. Vincent College, and Alan Saunders of Steelers Now were there to break it all down, including injury updates for Russell Wilson an Roman Wilson.

Starting quarterback Russell Wilson made his return to practice, working for the first time since injuring his calf during the team’s run test last Wednesday. He was still a limited participant, but worked in 7-on-7 and did some 11-on-11, though only handoffs in team run work. Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Wilson will work his way up to a full workload throughout the week.

While that injury news was positive, the Steelers also got some bad news, as rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson injured his left ankle during seven shots, and was taken from practice on a cart. Tomlin did not have an update on the seriousness of his injury, but it’s a blow to an already-thin wide receiver room.

Elsewhere, backs on backers didn’t disappoint, as the running backs and tight ends largely got the better of the defenders. Darnell Washington was perfect, while Najee Harris (Elandon Roberts) and Jaylen Warren (Patrick Queen) each at least held their own against the team’s top linebackers. Pat Freiermuth and Harris each battled Jeremiah Moon, who got four straight reps at one point. Rookie linebacker Payton Wilson fought Warren to a draw, but got stoned cold by third-team running back Aaron Shampklin.

In offensive line 1-on-1s, Troy Fautanu took two of three from T.J. Watt in an impressive first day in pads. He had a little bit more trouble with Nick Herbig and Kyron Johnson, going 1-2 against the second team. Finally, Justin Fields had his best day in what might be one of his last for a while with the first team. He went 4-for-4 in 11-on-11 periods, throwing a perfect touchdown to George Pickens and looking the best he’s looked in a Pittsburgh uniform so far.

All that and more in today’s Pittsburgh Steelers Practice Report.
