Steelers Promote Cole Marcoux to Director of Football Administration, Replacing Omar Khan

Steelers Director of Football Administration Cole Marcoux

The Pittsburgh Steelers have given promotions to four returning members of their front office staff as they continue to re-structure things in the aftermath of the promotion of Omar Khan to general manager, including Khan’s replacement, Cole Marcoux.

Marcoux has been promoted from football administration coordinator to director of football administration, the position Khan most recently held, though without his additional title of vice president.

Marcoux is a specialist in salary cap management, contract negotiations, team logistics and scouting. A Dartmouth grad, Marcoux is entering his third season with the Steelers, Before that, he spent six years working for the NFL as part of the league’s management council as senior manager of labor operations.

Part of his role with the league was ensuring that teams and specific player contracts remained in compliance with the salary cap. He also worked for the football operations department as a game monitor.

A New York native, Marcoux played quarterback and tight end for the Big Green and was an All-Ivy League honorable mention as a senior in 2013, when he caught 15 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown.

Marcoux, assistant general manager Andy Weidl, player personnel coordinator Dan Rooney Jr., director of pro scouting Sheldon White, director or college scouting Dan Colbert and director of player scouting Mark Sadowski appear to represent the senior-level positions in the Steelers front office under Khan.

Former general manager Kevin Colbert, who was present at the team’s minicamp practice on Wednesday, will also remain with the organization in an undetermined role.

Khan will now have a panel of seven lieutenants under him, as opposed to the four-man operation of Colbert, Khan, Rooney and former scouting director Brandon Hunt that existed previously. Khan was the only of the Steelers 16 candidates to replace Colbert that did not have a scouting background.

The rest of the promotions are on the scouting staff. College/pro scout Dave Petett has been promoted to assistant director of pro scouting, where he will work under White.

Phil Kreidler, who had been the team’s college scouting coordinator, and college scout Kelvin Fisher both now have the title of senior scouting assistant. That had been the title of Rick Reiprish, who left the organization after Khan’s promotion. College scout Bruce McNorton has also departed.

Mark Bruener, Mike Butler, Mark Gorscak and Chidi Iuwoma remain college scouts, Dennis MacInnis is the team’s BLESTO scout and Fawwaz Izzudin is the scouting intern. The promotions from the scouting ranks could be a sign that the Steelers aren’t done adding to Khan’s front office yet.
