The Steelers protected a fourth player from their practice squad for the week on Thursday, adding wide receiver Cody White to the list of practice players that can’t be poached by another team.
Each NFL team can protect up to four players from being signed away each week. The Steelers had already protected outside linebacker Taco Charlton, strong safety Karl Joseph and running back Jaylen Samuels earlier in the week.
White was elevated from the practice squad and played in his first NFL game in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, when he caught two passes for 17 yards.
The Steelers also elevated outside linebacker Derrek Tuszka for that game. Tuszka was promoted to the active roster earlier this week. The Steelers have 15 players on their practice squad as a result, one short of the maximum.
White could very well be needed again this week, as Chase Claypool and JuJu Smith-Schuster were both limited at practice on Thursday.
