Steelers Punter Expects to Be Game-Time Decision
PITTSBURGH — Punter Pressley Harvin III said he will be a game-time decision for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 4 game against the Houston Texans.
Harvin said he hasn’t been able to do much at practice all this week, but is hopeful he’ll be able to play through the right hamstring injury that has had him sidelined since the team’s Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
“I’m 100% still hopeful,” Harvin said. “I don’t like not playing in games, for sure.”
The Steelers signed veteran punter Brad Wing to their practice squad this week, and while Harvin has not been able to kick, he did say that he’s been able to help Wing get up to speed.
“Just being able to help him and make that transition easier if he’s going to be needed and having him ready,” Harvin said.
Harvin also said he’s tried to pick the brain of the 32-year-old, who as a left-footed, Australian-style kicker, is about as different as you can get from Harvin.
“Just trying to pick up the tips of the trade,” Harvin said.
Wing has been out of the NFL since 2018, when he was cut by the New York Giants for substance abuse problems. Wing took time to get his life on track, and this spring, fellow former Steelers player Hines Ward gave him a shot to punt at the XFL level for the San Antonio Brahmas, where Ward was the head coach.
Wing was a special teams captain for the Brahmas and kicked well, averaging 47.9 yards per punt. He wasn’t surprised that it was the Steelers to be the one to give him a second chance.
“It’s a family here,” Wing said.
