Steelers QB Draft Target Working Out for Another Team

The New York Giants want to know exactly what they’d be getting — or passing on — in Shedeur Sanders. The now-former Colorado quarterback, who could be a 2025 NFL Draft first-round target for the Pittsburgh Steelers if he falls so far in the order, will audition once more before learning his destination next week.
“Intrigue at No. 3: The #Giants plan to work out former Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders privately on Thursday, sources tell me and @RapSheet.” Tom Pelissero wrote Monday on X. “New York has done a lot of work on Sanders since the fall. Now, one more look before the draft.”
The Giants own the No. 3 overall pick in the draft and have given themselves some flexibility by signing veterans Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency. Since Eli Manning’s retirement, the historic franchise hasn’t quite pinned down a franchise quarterback. The situation is much like the Steelers’ struggles after Ben Roethlisberger.

Shedeur Sanders was solid at his pro day recently, with NFL.com’s Eric Edholm saying he “flashed his trademark accuracy over his 60-plus throws … with most of them on target or close to his receiver. Only four of those passes were incomplete, including three drops and one overthrow, by my count.”
The Giants must want to make sure what they saw in Boulder that day isn’t an outlier. Sanders completed 74.0% of his attempts last season for the Buffaloes. If he isn’t scooped up by the Cleveland Browns (No. 2), Giants, or New Orleans Saints (No. 9), he could very well be there for the Steelers to take — if they so choose — at No. 21. Sanders met with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers last week.
