Steelers QB Draft Target Would Love to Play for Mike Tomlin

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. A Steelers contingent brought the two-year Crimson Tide starter to dinner Tuesday night ahead of Alabama’s Pro Day on Wednesday. There, Milroe was the talk of the session for his performance in the 40-yard dash, which might boost his stock for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Speaking to the media afterward, Milroe expressed his excitement with the chance to dine with Tomlin and the Steelers, who own the No. 21 overall pick next month.
“It’s so important just to build a relationship, No. 1, and also talk ball,” Milroe said. “I just thought it was a great opportunity to be with the Steelers. … I remember watching the AFC North and the battles that they had growing up. So, now to have the opportunity to be around Coach Tomlin, I don’t take it lightly at all. If the opportunity presents itself for me to be his quarterback, I’ll take full advantage of it.”
Jalen Milroe finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2023, leading the Crimson Tide to an SEC crown and an appearance in the College Football Playoff. His go-round last year with the Crimson Tide was inconsistent. Still, he has the physical requirements to grow into an impactful passer at the next level.
He sprinted through the 40-yard dash in an unofficial 4.37 seconds Wednesday. He fell just short of Michael Vick’s 4.33-second dart in 2001, an NFL Scouting Combine record, according to Pro Football Network.

Wave Sports + Entertainment’s Bomani Jones spoke about Milroe’s draft prospects last week on his podcast.
“I don’t think anybody’s gonna fall for it, but somebody is gonna be willing to overlook it,” Jones said. “Just because he’s such a physical specimen. But when he came out for the draft and people talked about how crazy it was, I was like, ‘Oh, no. … What is gonna get him drafted is not going to change. He needs to stop putting up film to get in the way of that. Big, strong, fast.”
