Steelers QB Kyle Allen Finds New Home in Free Agency

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kyle Allen has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions, according to a report by Mike Garofalo of NFL Network.
Allen, 29, spent one season in Pittsburgh, and played in just one game while serving as the third-string quarterback behind Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
Allen appeared in the Steelers’ Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys, replacing Fields for two plays, throwing one pass, a completion for 19 yards. The one pass left Allen with a 1.43 EPA per play — the best of any quarterback in the NFL in 2024.
With the Lions, Allen will back up Jared Goff, along with 2023 draft pick Hendon Hooker.

Allen will be joining his fifth team in five season, having spent 2023 with the Buffalo Bills, 2022 with the Houston Texans, 2020-21 with the Washington Football Team and 2018-19 with the Carolina Panthers.
Allen’s best season came in 2019 with Carolina, throwing for 3,322 yards and 17 touchdowns while making 12 starts. Since then, he’s started just six games over the last five games.
Earlier in the day on Thursday, the Steelers signed Mason Rudolph, adding him to Skylar Thompson to give the team two quarterbacks to backup whomever Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin are able to add as the team’s starter for 2025.
