PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have released first-year wide receiver Tyler Simmons, the team announced on Tuesday.
Simmons signed with the Steelers as a street free agent on March 22 after spending training camp with the Houston Texans in 2020.
The 6-foot, 201-pound Georgia alum played in all three preseason games for the Steelers, and caught one pass for a five-yard touchdown in the opener against the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, Ohio.

Simmons had been caught behind a logjam of productive wide receivers in Pittsburgh, with Rico Bussey, Anthony Johnson, Mathew Sexton and Cody White all still likely vying for a practice squad spots with five regulars returning.
Simmons was one of five players the Steelers cut from their active roster, as part of an NFL-mandated cut-down from 85 players to 80 on Tuesday. Inside linebacker Calvin Bundage, offensive lineman Aviante Collins and running back Pete Guerriero were also released.
Defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr. was waived/injured.
