PITTSBURGH — The Steelers have released offensive lineman Brandon Walton as part of the team’s mandatory cut from 90 players to 85 on Tuesday.
Walton had spent the 2020 season on the Steelers’ practice squad and re-signed with the team for 2020 in January. He played in both preseason games, primarily working at left guard behind Rashaad Coward and Kevin Dotson.
Walton signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent out of FAU last saeason. He was cut by the Bills on Sept. 4 and signed with the practice squad, but was released from the Buffalo practice squad and caught on with the Steelers on Sept. 19. He was not elevated from the practice squad for any games.
Walton played in 44 games over four seasons at FAU, winning two Conference USA titles with the Owls while playing both left and right tackle. He was a 2019 All-Conference USA selection.
Defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson, cornerback Stephen Denmark, wide receiver Isaiah McKoy and kicker Sam Sloman were cut along with Walton. The Steelers must further cut from 85 players to 80 by Tuesday, Aug, 24.
