Steelers Release Veteran DT Abdullah Anderson

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers released defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson as part of the team’s mandatory cut from 90 players to 85 on Tuesday.

Anderson, a fourth-year pro out of Bucknell, signed as a street free agent with the Steelers on April 12 after previously spending time with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings.

He had one tackle, one sack, one pressure and one forced fumble in two preseason games with the Steelers.

Anderson joined the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Spent the first season on the practice squad. He made the active roster in 2019, playing in six games and recording four tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack.

Cut after training camp in 2020 by the Bears, Anderson signed to the Vikings’ practice squad on and was elevated to the active roster for one game. He played 10 snaps against Detroit on Nov. 8 without recording a statistic.

Cornerback Stephen Denmark, wide receiver Isaiah McKoy, kicker Sam Sloman and tackle Brandon Walton were cut along with Anderson. The Steelers must further cut from 85 players to 80 by Tuesday, Aug, 24.
