Scott, 29, spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia signed him off the New Orleans practice squad after being selected by the Saints with a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, Scott played in 75 games and made 12 starts for the Eagles over six seasons. His best statistical season came in 2021, when he played in 16 games, started four and rush 87 times for 373 yards and seven touchdowns.
Steelers Release Veteran RB with Injury Settlement
The Pittsburgh Steelers released running back Boston Scott from the practice squad with an injury settlement, per the transaction wire. Scott now has the opportunity to catch on with another team and not have to sit out for an extended period due to being on the practice squad/injured list.
The Steelers placed Scott on the practice squad/injured list on Sept. 4. In a corresponding move, the club signed former Harvard running back Aaron Shampklin to the practice squad.
Scott suffered the undisclosed injury during his first practice with the team on Sept. 2. He was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 25 and was signed by Pittsburgh two days later.
Last season, Scott played in 14 games, but saw his role in the offense significantly diminished. He carried just 20 times for 86 yards on the season. His contract with the Eagles ended in March and he was not retained.
Scott signed with the Rams on May 1 and spent training camp and the preseason in L.A. He was a preseason workhorse for the Rams, rushing 36 times for 157 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and also catching three passes for 10 yards. He also returned kicks, grabbing two for 40 yards.
Shampklin was with the Steelers throughout the offseason and the preseason and was waived on cut-down day.
Shampklin spent all of training camp battling Jonathan Ward, La’Mical Perine and Daijun Edwards to be the team’s No. 4 running back. Edwards was one of the team’s early cuts, while Ward and Perine were also final roster cuts.
In three preseason games, Shampklin rushed 13 times for 40 yards and also caught three passes for three yards.
The 24-year-old Harvard grad singed with the Steelers on Jan. 17 after spending training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers last season. He previously spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Gamblers of the USFL.
