Steelers Rule Out George Pickens vs. Eagles
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 15 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced on Friday.
Pickens had already been listed as doubtful by head coach Mike Tomlin, and the team has been preparing to play without him since the start of the week. He first suffered the injury on last Thursday and was initially listed as questionable for last Sunday’s Steelers game against the Cleveland Browns. But Pickens couldn’t get through a pregame workout and was a late scratch. An MRI revealed more substantial damage than initially thought.
Pickens did not practice again on Friday, his third consecutive missed practice, and the fact that he did not work at all this week leaves it in question as to whether Pickens will be able to return for next Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers have consecutive short weeks following this Sunday’s game, with five days between games next week and then just three days before they host the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day.
Van Jefferson got back into the starting lineup to replace Pickens against the Browns after being replaced by Mike Williams the week before. Jefferson, Williams and Calvin Austin III will likely be the team’s three starting wide receivers.
Scotty Miller got a helmet for the first time in three weeks against the Browns, rewarding the Steelers’ faith with three catches for 38 yards. He and Ben Skowronek will be the fourth and fifth receiver options.
