Steelers Scout Caleb Williams, Top Offensive Tackle

Steelers QB Caleb Williams 2024 NFL Draft

The Steelers sent a scout to yesterday’s USC and Notre Dame matchup in South Bend, according to Notre Dame beat writer Jack Soble. Of course, the highlights of that matchup include USC quarterback Caleb Williams, but the Fighting Irish have one of the best offensive tackles in the upcoming class in Joe Alt as well.

The Fighting Irish walloped USC and their offense, and Williams struggled. He finished with three interceptions and just one touchdown on 37 throws for 199 yards. To say the least, that’s not the performance that Williams wanted to put up against one of the top defenses in the nation. USC also has other players to watch, such as running back Marshawn Lloyd, safety Calen Bullock, and others.

For the Fighting Irish, the prospects start with tackle Joe Alt. While Olu Fashanu is considered the top tackle in the class, Alt is not that far off. Just 20 years old, the 6-foot-8 tackle is a mammoth prospect with surprisingly good movement skills for his size. He has first-round projections right now. Running back Audric Estime has put himself on radars with a fantastic start to the season, while quarterback Sam Hartman has a chance to help his draft stock over the year with more solid performances.

The Steelers sent a scout to the TCU-BYU game on Saturday, too. There, they got to scout top cornerback Josh Newton. While the NFL Draft is still a ways off, the scouts are already starting to build boards and get things in line, and Pittsburgh has already covered a broad map during the 2023 college football season.
