Steelers Scout Pair of 2025 NFL Draft Edge Rushers
The Pittsburgh Steelers met with a pair of edge rushers in the 2025 NFL Draft during practices for the Hula Bowl in Orlando last week.
The Steelers linked up with Minnesota defensive end Danny Striggow and Colorado defensive end BJ Green II. Both edge rushers played in four-man defensive fronts in college that the Steelers would be looking to convert to 3-4 outside linebackers.
Striggow is 6-foot-4 and weighed in at 255 pounds. A five-year player at Minnesota, Striggow wasn’t a starter until his redshirt junior season in 2023, when he posted six sacks, seven tackles for loss and 51 tackles. Last season as a redshirt senior, he nearly matched those totals with five sacks, six tackles for loss and 52 tackles.
Striggow, a Long Lake, Minn. native, was a three-time Big Ten honorable mention while with the Gophers.
Comparatively, Green had an itinerant amateur career. An Atlanta native, he first attended Arizona State, where he was a walk-on. Green spending three seasons with the Sun Devils before transferring to Colorado for 2024.
Green had five sacks a true freshman for ASU in 2021, bursting onto the scene. He led the team in sacks despite limited playing time. Five of his eight total tackles were quarterback sacks. That performance earned Green a scholarship, but he still played a limited role in 2022.
He broke out for six sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 39 tackles and a forced fumble with the Sun Devils in 2023. After transferring to Colorado, he added 7.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 33 tackles and two forced fumbles to his resume in 2024.
The Steelers have plenty of depth at edge rusher, but are always looking for more. T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig are set to return, while Preston Smith is a likely salary cap casualty and Jeremiah Moon is an exclusive rights free agents. Practice squad members Eku Leota and Julius Welschof have been re-signed for 2025, along with former Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Thomas Rush.
