Steelers Sights and Sounds: Mike Tomlin Hounds the LBs

PITTSBURGH — Mike Tomlin likes watching the Steelers’ inside linebackers. After doing so for the past few days, Tomlin once again came over to pay close attention to his inside linebackers on Tuesday as they enter into the final week of OTAs down at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
The team only has five on the roster with Elandon Roberts, Cole Holcomb, Tanner Muse, Mark Robinson, and Chapelle Russell. Nick Herbig could factor into those plans in the future. Regardless, right now, that position is still thin, and could see someone added at some point. Cardinals LB Isaiah Simmons has been subjected to some trade rumors with the Steelers at the forefront of those potential landing spots.
In addition to that, Joey Porter Jr. is taking Patrick Peterson’s mentorship very seriously. The veteran and future Hall of Famer vowed to have an impact on the rookie class. Porter Jr. is in a competition on the outside to earn some playing time moving forward.
Speaking of rookies, Broderick Jones is still sharpening some of his tools before the mandatory minicamp. He is in competition with Dan Moore Jr. for who can win the left tackle job. However, the 14th overall selection has his sights set on winning that battle and being the week one starter.
