Steelers Sights and Sounds: Tight Ends Big Focus of Arthur Smith’s Offense
The tight ends are expected to be a big part of Arthur Smith's news offense.
UNITY TWP., Pa. —The Pittsburgh Steelers look like they are going to heavily feature the tight end position in the new offense being installed by Arthur Smith, both as blockers and receivers. The Steelers spent almost the entire pracitce with two tight ends on the field, and a good portion of it had three tight ends or two tight ends and running back Jack Colletto. Either way, there are going to be a plethora of big bodies running out there with the Pittsburgh offense this season. That means a lot of work for the tight ends on the roster.
The Steelers have been using them three at a time, so with only five healtyy tight ends on the roster, that’s meant lots of work for Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward, MyCole Pruitt and Matt Sokol in practice on Sunday. The group worked in double-team run blocking with tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts and then ran over to catch passes from the team’s quarterbacks.
Rodney William II, still working his way back from an AC sprain, did not practice on Sunday.
