Steelers Sights & Sounds: QBs Throwing Off-Platform

Steelers

UNITY TWP, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers did not have a lot of mobility at the quarterback position in 2021 with aging star Ben Roethlisberger, and no matter who wins the team’s three-headed quarterback battle, there figures to be a much greater ability to move the quarterback around the pocket in 2022.

Moving the quarterback means throwing off platform, and that means more drills to do just that. The Steelers quarterbacks worked a combo read handoff and then rollout throw drill during an individual period of Tuesday’s practice at St. Vincent College. The quarterbacks also did a quick snap drill, where the players had to field and quickly release multiple shotgun snaps in a row.

Mason Rudolph made a nice play after a bad snap early in training camp, and it’s not surprising that he excelled in the more pocket-related passing drill, while Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky seem more comfortable throwing on the move.
