Steelers Sign CB Alexander Myers to Practice Squad; Release Pittsburgh Native Trevon Mathis
The Steelers signed cornerback Alexander Myres to their practice squad on Tuesday and released cornerback Trevon Mathis.
Myres, had originally signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Houston following the 2019 NFL Draft.
He worked out with the team throughout OTAs and minicamp, but an illness prevented him from participating in training camp and he was waived with a non-football injury designation three days into camp.
The 5-foot-11 cornerback played two seasons with the Cougars after transferring from Division II Ouachita Baptist.
Mathis was a late addition to the Steelers training camp roster. The Woodland Hills and Toledo alum was among the team’s final cuts at the end of the preseason, but was signed to the practice squad immediately thereafter.
The Steelers also signed tight end Alize Mack to their practice squad on Tuesday and released inside linebacker Robert Spillane.
