Steelers Sign Mike Tomlin To Contract Extension
With the Steelers reporting to training camp today, Art Rooney removed a big potential distraction.
The team announced that they’ve agreed on a contract extension with head coach Mike Tomlin. The extension is for one year which means Tomlin will be under contract thru the 2021 season.
During his 12 years with the Steelers, Tomlin has led the team to 8 playoff appearances, 6 AFC North championships and two trips to the Super Bowl.
His career record is 125-66-1 with a winning percentage of .654. The Steelers lack of recent success in the playoffs, winning only 3 games in the last 8 seasons, has been the only negative on Tomlin’s resume.
“I’m very appreciative of this contract extension and opportunity and want to thank Art Rooney II and everyone in the organization for the support in my first 12 seasons. We have a goal of winning the organization’s seventh Super Bowl championship, and I couldn’t be more excited about this upcoming season,” said Tomlin.
”Mike is one of the most successful head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident in his leadership to continue to lead our team as we pursue our goal of winning another championship,” said Rooney II.
The Steelers report time is 4 PM and we’ll hear more from Tomlin later today.
