The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing former Houston Texans and Wisconsin offensive lineman Tyler Beach, according to a report by Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV in Houston.

Beach, 24, is a 6-foot-5 3/4, 304-pound rookie that has played both tackle and guard in his career.

The Grafton, Wisconsin native was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent this spring and played in all three preseason games with Houston. He took 55 snaps at left tackle, 28 snaps at right tackle and six at right guard. In his three games, Pro Football Focus game him a 45.9 run-blocking grade and an 80.7 pass-blocking grade.

Beach was a two-time All-Big Ten selection with the Badgers. He started in 2020 at right tackle, 2021 at left tackle and 2022 at left guard. He also worked extensively as Wisconsin’s third tight end, playing 121 snaps at that position over his five years, mostly as a senior in 2022.

The Steelers don’t have an obvious need for an offensive lineman. In fact, they’ve used just seven this season, as the only lineman that have played other than the starters are rookie Broderick Jones, who took over at right tackle, and Nate Herbig, who filled in at guard.

Spencer Anderson and Dylan Cook have spent the entire season on the 53-man roster and neither has played a single snap. The Steelers currently have tackle Kellen Diesch and center Ryan McCollum on the practice squad.

The Steelers made three other moves with their practice squad on Tuesday, releasing quarterback Trace McSorley and safety Nate Meadors and re-signing outside linebacker David Perales.

Beach is the third member of the 2022 Wisconsin team on the Steelers roster, joining outside linebacker Nick Herbig and nose tackle Keeanu Benton.
